The Southern Section swim meet was held March 31st.  In spite of rain and heavy wind the meet with 500 plus high school swimmers went off without a hitch.  Congratulations to Merced H.S. that swept both the boys and girls division.  Pitman proved to be ready to return to high school team competitions with a solid second and third place  in girls and boys while Atwater took third in the boys division.  Oakdale of the VOL making their first appearance in the meet took home third place in the girls division.  Good luck to all teams at their league championships.

Good bye to Drew. Sadly I have to let you know that we are losing Drew. He has been offered a position helping coach SoCal Boys water polo. Drew has been with us for five years and has really matured as a coach the past three years. He has coached our older boys, and last year took on the older girls program. Additionally he has been an ODP boys coach the past three years. As director of the club, I wish him well (as we all do) as he continues to grow as a coach and leader of young athletes. Having watched him grow the past few years I know he will do well in his new adventure. There is always hope that he will return this upcoming summer, as I know the older girls would love to see him stay! We will have a hard time replacing his fire and enthusiasm and sheer love of what he does.

]]> As high school water polo draws to a close there are always the questions of how to stay in the water playing in tournaments / games / etc.  At the same time we are asked what can a polo player do to improve their swimming strokes in anticipation for the upcoming swim season.  There are a couple of programs that only do water polo but only one that lets you do both.  Since the Modesto high school pools heaters are turned off beginning in November there are not many choices.  The past two tournaments fliers have been distributed giving you one possibility.  Please pick up fliers from you coaches or pick information up at the Johansen pool.  The polo team has a schedule of five tournaments we intend to enter between now and February.  More information will be posted soon.  For more information contact Brent at Bbrentpolo@aol.com  or Kim Corgiat at kand05@yahoo.com  or  Drew Clute at  drewclute@yahoo.com

]]> The Modesto-Stanislaus Water Polo teams are headed off to national competitions.  The 16-under boys and 18-under boys as well as the 18-under girls will be going to Junior Nationals in Orange County.  The boys traveling July 29th to August 3rd, and the girls traveling August 3rd to August 7th.

The other event will be Americas Games held in San Diego.  The 14-under boys and girls, 16-under boys and girls, and 18-under boys have all qualified for this event.  The highlight of this event are the  opening ceremonies held at PetCo Park.  The teams are traveling on August 3rd and will conclude August 7th.
